1000 College Students Complete Work Experience

Work experience numbers at North Lindsey College are high this year with 1000 students completing work experience so far, totalling over 45,000 hours for this academic year.

Work experience provides a vital industry insight for post 16 students and forms an integral part of the 16-19 study programme in England and Wales.  Colleges are expected to offer students high quality and meaningful work experience as part of their 16-19 programme of study.  The majority of students participate in work experience with a local business and this can often leads to an apprenticeship or employment.

Deqa Mohamed (21) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care Student said, “I completed my work experience at Lincolnshire House.  I really enjoyed my placement and the work was very diverse and I was able to work with people of all different needs.  I really enjoyed talking with the residents and finding out more about them.  This work experience really made me realise how much I want to work in the sector.  Work experience helped all of us in the class decide if this was the career for us.  I feel everyone should have the opportunity for work experience.”

“At North Lindsey College we are passionate about developing our students’ employability skills to ensure they are fully prepared for the world of work,” say Danny Fenwick, Head of Performance – Technical and Professional at the College.

“We work closely with local and national companies to ensure we focus on the key skills students need to develop to meet the needs of industry.  Work experience is a great opportunity for students to put these skills into practice in a safe, supportive and challenging environment and a great opportunity to enhance their CV’s and ultimately, their opportunities for progression. Many of our students have gained apprenticeships, part time and full time employment as a result of their work experience.”
