Industry visit opens doors to the construction industry
Construction students at North Lindsey College have gone behind the scenes on a construction site to gain real industry experience, as part of the College’s open doors to construction event.
Full-time students on the plastering and joinery course were given invaluable access to The Regeneration Project, Westcliff by local construction firm TG Sowerby’s. This beneficial opportunity gave the next generation of skilled craftspeople a chance to be on a real working site.
"The experience gave all of the learners at all levels, an excellent insight into how to manage a construction site and they got to see hands on how each trade manages each task,” says Mark Hornsby, North Lindsey College Brickwork Lecturer.
“The students were buzzing at the end of the day, it was worthwhile and a valuable experience and they are looking forward to going back in four weeks to see the finished product.
The students are set to return to the site, four weeks after their initial visit, to see the developments and how the project has moved on.
“A massive thank you to TG Sowerby's for the experience,” adds Mark “with particular mention to Chris the site manager who made time in his diary to offer up this insight. He personally took us around the site, gave constructive feedback and it's great to see the investment in the next generation by the company."
