Scunthorpe United Set up Soccer School at College

Throughout the summer holidays North Lindsey College have welcomed Scunthorpe United onto campus to deliver their soccer school.

The College works closely with Scunthorpe United, including its successful Futsal course, so was delighted to welcome the team on site.

The SUFC soccer school is aimed at children aged between 6 -13 years and has been running every Tuesday to Friday from 10.00am – 3.00pm over summer holidays. Over fifty children have accessed the soccer school, which costs just £10 a day, sees children participate in a range of team-related games and matches.

All of the participants receive a SUFC match programme, participate in a presentation and have the opportunity to win medals, which cover everything from acknowledging the winning teams and awards for special recognition.

“The idea behind the soccer camps is to give children a chance to play football, just for fun, it’s not about being the best player," says Education Manager from Scunthorpe United Gav Cooper. "It’s about enjoying the game and maybe making a start in it. Also it’s fantastic for the kids to get the opportunity to play with one of their Iron Hero’s which potentially they never get chance to do”.

Parent, Meenu Joshi says her son has throughly enjoyed the soccer school, “my son, Aryan (10), has never missed a session, we can’t go on holiday in case we miss one!  He enjoys it so much and has made lots of new friends.  It’s ideal to get young people out in the fresh air and having fun.  My son is a big Scunthorpe United fan and this is perfect for him and he even gets to meet some of the players.”

“I’ve enjoyed everything," adds Aryan "the game, the players, the medals and meeting Kevin Van Veen – it’s been amazing!”

Jack Ellis (10) came to the soccer camp and spoke of his experiences “my main highlight was meeting Kevin Van Veen and I’ve really enjoyed being here at the College – I’m coming again.”

Jack,s Mum, Sally Ellis (51) said, “my son has made a lot of new friends through this soccer school and he gets really excited about coming.  He has had the opportunity to meet some of the Scunthorpe United players and I would highly recommend it.
