Make-up Artist to the Stars

Former South Axholme Academy student, Stevie Brown, has become a make-up artist to the stars after studying beauty therapy at North Lindsey College

The talented student, who is now a freelance make-up artist, has recently worked for MTV with celebrities from Geordie Shore, Real Housewives of Cheshire, Love Island, Spring Break with Grandad and Ex on the Beach. As well as working as a make-up artist for the national Miss Swimsuit UK competition.

“Without the tutors at North Lindsey I wouldn’t be where I am today," says Stevie "They supported me throughout my course and gave me business development advice and guidance to help me set-up as a freelancer. Throughout my time at College, we got to work with a range of employers including Ragdale Hall. The course at North Lindsey was a great learning experience and I would recommend the course to others wanting to go onto work in beauty.”

Stevie started her career in beauty at North Lindsey College and enrolled on a Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy in 2013. Her passion and talent for make-up and beauty soon shone through, achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Treatments, studying maths and English alongside her vocational course.

Heading into the spotlight to work with well known faces was a little daunting “at first I was nervous working with the celebs as I was offered the job through the work I had done at Miss Swimsuit UK," adds Stevie "It was a great experience. I got on with the team and the celebs really well, we are still all quite close now. I got to work with a wide variety of people using different techniques including doing camouflage make-up as well as spray tanning.”

Preparation is underway for her next big assignment, heading off to Scotland to work as a make-up artist for the Star Tanning’s Brand Ambassador Competition.

Stevie built her employability skills undertaking work experience during her time at North Lindsey, over in Epworth at the Willows Beauty Salon as well as Scunthorpe's Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort. After a successful work experience placement at Forest Pines, Stevie was offered a job within the spa, building up her skills working at the hotel chain before going onto work as a freelancer.
