College Triumph at Skillbuild Competition
North Lindsey College construction students scoop awards at the national Skill Build Competition.
SkillBuild, delivered by CITB, is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices and this year the event was held at York College.
Seven competitors participated in the regional heat and engaged in competition against other colleges in the hope of getting a place in the top three and to advance towards the next heat. The areas of construction represented included painting and decorating advanced, bench Joinery advanced, site joinery advanced and bricklaying advanced.
The students were triumphant in bench joinery advanced and painting and decorating advanced.
Shaun Hallsworth (Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery said, “It is always a pleasure to take North Lindsey College learners to Skill build heats as this really puts our College in the spot light. Our learners and apprentices work tirelessly to achieve the best they can possible be and to have our learners win in such a prestige competition is fantastic. Really goes to show the support, time and training the learners get from our great staff members gives them the tools to achieve.”
Kelly Jobson (20) Level 2 Painting and Decorating Student) won the advanced painting and decorating competition and stated, “We was given a task to do which included wallpapering, stencilling and painting and we was marked on how well we had measured out and neatness.” Kelly continued to state, “It was a good day and I just went to do my best and didn’t expect to win.”
