Counselling to a High Standard

The University Centre, North Lindsey College is delighted to announce a new BA Degree in Counselling, awarded by the University of Hull.

This fantastic opportunity can now allow students to complete a further year and achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as taking them a step nearer to the full British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy registration; the professional status usually expected to set up in business as a counsellor.

Those new to counselling can now sign up for the two-year foundation degree, FdA, and progress onwards for a third year, achieving their BA Degree.

Many students utilise their new skills in existing jobs working with people of all ages, volunteering or work with local organisations to develop their expertise before taking on a permanent post or setting up their own service.  The new BA (Hons) is specifically focused on professional practice and many of the things needed to consider when setting up in business.

Ian Barkley, Curriculum Development Lead (Health) and Programme Leader for the new BA Counselling, believes this is a great opportunity for local counsellors to gain further expertise and qualifications and said, "We are delighted we can now offer a full degree in Counselling to those students we have already worked with, as well as welcome anyone with similar qualifications from elsewhere, and,  if you are just setting out to become a counsellor or develop counselling expertise in your role, our Foundation Degree is still there ready and waiting for you too."

Anyone interested in the BA degree s or the Foundation degree, FdA. should contact the University Centre Information and Advice Office on 01724 294125.
