What are the Course Details?
The Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma courses in Fashion & Clothing have been developed to meet the needs of those wishing to pursue a career within the Fashion Industry. The courses have been specifically designed to give learners a base knowledge in a range of disciplines, and enable them to find a focus for possible future progression at degree level.

What are the Entry Requirements?
Access on to the Award course can be through the following:
Obtaining 4 GCSE’s grade A* - C including one in an Art based subject and one that demonstrates written English, or successful completion of a Level 2 programme in a suitable subject area.
Mature learners who present a portfolio of work are also welcome and entry requirement qualifications may be flexible in some cases.
All applicants will be required to attend an informal interview and present a portfolio of work that demonstrates their abilities to the required standard.
Learners who successfully complete the Diploma year are eligible to apply to the Extended Diploma course. Entry to the Extended Diploma will depend on the number of units achieved.

What will I Learn?
The Fashion & Clothing qualification is structured as a Level 3 Diploma ,12 unit (2 A Level equivalent) or 18 unit qualification (3 A Level equivalent) and is studied as two one year courses.
National Diploma – Year 1 Studies
National Extended Diploma – Year 2 Studies
Following completion of a successful National Diploma, learners have the opportunity to apply to continue their studies onto the Extended Diploma qualification.

How will I Learn?
This is a highly practical course and lessons will usually be spent in the design studio or specialist workshop. There will be theory elements to the course which will involve research and the production of essays. Throughout the course you will study at least one Functional Skill in either Communication, IT or Numeracy. You will receive specialist classes as well as having the opportunity to practise your skills within the Level 3 course.

You will be expected to complete some work in your own study time. You will be expected to provide your own equipment, with the exception of specialist equipment. An equipment guide will be given at the beginning of the course.

How will I be Assessed?
Your progress will be measured in a number of ways including practical projects, presentations, written assignments which will be assessed internally. You will receive feedback in a variety of ways including verbal feedback from your tutor, written feedback from an assignment or project, and grading of your work. Final unit grades will be allocated at unit completion usually at the end of a course. The Level 3 course is continually assessed with no exams but your work may be sampled by an external moderator. Functional Skills subjects will have an exam.

What Enrichments are Available?
It is expected that learners access a range of enrichment opportunities and activities. Enrichment activities are available to accompany the main programme of study. This can be done in a variety of subject areas including; sports, languages and creative studies. Complete lists of enrichment opportunities will be outlined in the beginning of term one.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
Learners are expected to participate in trips and visits to develop and reinforce knowledge as well as to gather research material. Trips in the past have included visits to major cities in the UK, galleries, museums and local places of interest.

Is there any Work Experience?
Students will get the opportunity to enter fashion design competitions, work with client based assignments and are encouraged to undertake fashion- related work experience.
What can I Progress to?
The course structure is designed to provide learners with stepping stones towards Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma Level courses.
