Financial Assistance
There are a number of sources of financial assistance available to learners. More detailed information can be found in our Financial Information booklet available from Customer Services. However, you may find this summary useful.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
Available to learners aged 16-18 with a household income of less than £30,810 (for the tax year 2009-10). Application packs are available for collection from Customer Services.
Adult Learning Grant (ALG)
- Available to learners aged 19+ with a household income of less than £19,513 if you’re single
- a combined income under £30,810 if you’re living with a partner
The course must be your first full Level 2 or first full Level 3 qualification. Application packs are available for collection from Customer Services
Concessionary Fees
May be available to learners in receipt of benefits or working and receiving income support/working tax credit.
Career Development Loans
Available to learners aged 18 years and over, resident or training in Great Britain.
Student Loans
Available to learners studying on a Higher Education Course, but under the age of 55 years.
Care to Learn
Available to learners under 20, Care to Learn could pay up to £160 per child per week towards childcare and travel costs. Application packs are available for collection from Customer Services
Child Care Fund
Available to learners on further education courses for assistance with child care costs. See Customer Services for more information.
