Information for Parents
Year on year North Lindsey College helps learners from Scunthorpe and the surrounding areas to work towards their goals - whether they are aiming to progress onto university or into employment.
We are keen that parents and carers feel involved in the education of our 16-18 year old learners. We find that involvement and encouragement from parents and carers helps to ensure that learners have the best possible experiences during their time at College.
If you wish to speak to study services about additional support for a disability or learning difficulty. Please contact Ann Cooper on 01724 294074 or by email at ann.cooper@northlindsey.ac.uk.
The Prospectus
The full-time prospectus is the first step in finding out about the courses on offer at the College, the level at which they can be studied and a little bit about College life. To request your copy call customer services on: 01724 294030 or fill in the online request form.
At our annual open evening, held every October, the entire campus is open for school leavers and their parents to wander around, talk to tutors, see the facilities and get answers to any questions relating to courses or college life. In addition, we hold regular Advice and Enrolment Sessions throughout the year. These are hall based events and allow prospective learners and their parents to gain advice from College tutors and our experienced Guidance Team.
Cost of Course(s)
Learners aged 16-18 do not have to pay course fees, although learners may be required to purchase specialist equipment and materials for their chosen course. Many courses offer enrichment activities and residential trips and visits which may incur an additional cost.
Learners may also be eligible to claim Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA). EMA is a national scheme providing financial assistance to qualifying learners under the age of 19. The amount payable is based on parental income with a maximum of £30 per week, paid weekly in arrears. Bonuses of up to £100 may also be available.
Application packs for EMA can be obtained by telephoning the EMA helpline on 0808 101 6219 or ordering online at www.dfes.gov.uk/financialhelp/ema. Further details may also be obtained by contacting Customer Services on: 01724 294030.
If your son/daughter studies full-time at College, any benefit entitlement you may be claiming (including child benefit) should not be affected.
Notification of Absence
We ask learners, or their parents/carers, to notify us of any absence due to illness by 10am on the first day of illness and any subsequent days. Notification should be made to the Student Absence Line on: 01724 294179.
