Here in Learning Resources we offer a friendly and relaxed environment in which you can study or carry out research in any of our three main areas: the Open Access Computer Centre, the Further Education Library and the Higher Education Library. All areas are staffed by experienced and friendly assistants.
Libraries
Both libraries have meeting rooms that you can book for group work, and there are also workspaces for private study. The Higher Education Library also has a quiet study area. We have a large collection of specialised books, journals and newspapers for you to make use of during your time on your course here, as well as electronic online journals and databases. We also provide high quality photocopying and document binding facilities. Our free of charge video and DVD collection, available to all learners, is situated in the Higher Education Library with viewing and loan facilities. This library is also home to a useful and extensive local history collection.
Open Access Centre
We have over 40 computers available for learners to use – you are welcome to come in with your friends and work together on your assignments in the main computer suite, or take advantage of the quiet atmosphere of the library facilities on one of our twelve wireless laptops. All computers can be pre-booked in person or by telephone. Each learner has their own user area on the college network to store work and research results, and in Learning Resources we have an extensive collection of software helpsheets to assist you in the use of our most popular programmes.
Facilities for learners with disabilities
In each area there are adjustable height tables for those who require them, and we also have a lift for learners who are unable to use the stairs. Our laptops have screen filters to aid users who find looking at a screen difficult, and Read/Write software is installed on all our computers to aid users who have difficulty using word processing packages. Other equipment is available through the college administration system. Our staff are trained to anticipate the needs of learners with disabilities.
